Rainy Day Peace

I clearly remember this rose from my childhood, the appearance, the feel and the scent and especially the way it drooped when heavy with raindrops. My grandfather was a avid rose grower and planted the Peace rose especially for my grandmother. Because they lived through two world wars I guess it meant a lot to them both. He survived the first World War as a combatant, getting married immediately on his return, and was nearly killed in the London blitz in the second. Apparently the species itself, having been developed in the late thirties, survived WWII in exile from France and won the All American Rose Selection award in 1946 having been christened "Peace" for the obvious reasons.
